The festive, sparkling Christmas lecture with lots of chemistry: "Wichtelwerkstatt goes Insta"

Show experiments with scientific depth and tongue-in-cheek humor are offered by the Christmas Lecture, which will be held by the chemistry department at RPTU in Kaiserslautern on 18 December. The event takes the audience on a scenic journey through the hustle and bustle of the "Christmas gnome workshop". This time, the elves will work together to prepare content for their brand new Instagram presence. There are two sessions - at 3pm and 6:30pm. These will both take place in the chemistry building, lecture hall 207. Participation is free of charge, but a ticket is required.

"We let the audience immerse themselves in the magical, sparkling world of the gnomes," explains Professor Johann Seibert, who takes on the role of the gnomes together with Professor Sabine Becker, Professor Wolfgang Kleist and the team. "The elves make the decision to show their pre-Christmas gift production on Instagram. In the glow of the ring lights, they prepare the reels for the social media appearance - hashtag #XmasScience - and of course dig deep into the chemical magic box." To round off the atmosphere, the chemistry student council will be serving waffles and Christmas drinks in the foyer in front of the lecture hall.

Seats will be allocated via tickets, as seating is limited. Tickets can either be picked up at RPTU from Caro Hoffmann (Building 54, Room 670, Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.) or reserved by sending an e-mail to weihnachtswichtel@chem.rptu.de. The reserved tickets will be available for distribution outside the lecture hall on December 18.

And if you would like to follow the preparations for the Christmas lecture, you can find the elves on Instagram at @wilmawichtel_RPTU.
