Physicist Andrii Chumak, a leading international expert in magnonics, has been honored with the Mid-Career Award of the IEEE Magnetics Society. The award recognizes his pioneering contributions to spin-wave physics, magnonic devices, and innovative concepts for energy-efficient information processing. Many of his acclaimed works were conducted during his time in Kaiserslautern, including research within the framework of SFB/TRR 173 Spin+X, and now form the foundation of his own research group at the University of Vienna.

The Mid-Career Award is one of the IEEE Magnetics Society’s most prestigious honors and highlights the international impact of Chumak’s research in the middle stage of his career.

For the magnetism community in Kaiserslautern, the award represents a significant milestone: Together with the Achievement Award for Burkard Hillebrands (2023) and the Early-Career Award for Qi Wang (2024), Chumak’s award now completes the “Royal Flush” of IEEE Awards. All three key career stages – Early, Mid, and Senior – have thus been recognized within the same research environment, demonstrating the continuity and excellence of local magnetism research.

This combination of internationally recognized awards and groundbreaking research in the Spin+X context showcases the Kaiserslautern magnetism group as a hub of top-tier scientific achievement across all career stages.
