Stellenbeschreibung The Wireless Communications and Radio Positioning (WICON) research group at RPTU Kaiserslautern is cur-
rently accepting applications for a bachelor thesis. The focus of this thesis will be on the security analysis of the
E2 interface in Open Radio Access Networks (O-RAN). Given our group’s strong interest in mobile networks,
we consider the security of O-RAN, especially the E2 interface, to be of the utmost importance.
This bachelor thesis aims to conduct an in-depth security analysis of the E2 interface in Open Radio Ac-
cess Networks (O-RAN). The E2 interface, a critical component of the O-RAN architecture, has significant
implications for network security and performance. However, it has not been thoroughly explored in the exist-
ing literature.
The student will begin by gaining a comprehensive understanding of the O-RAN architecture and the role
of the E2 interface within it. They will then identify potential security threats and vulnerabilities specific to
the E2 interface and analyze their impact on the overall network. The thesis will also involve proposing and
evaluating potential security measures to mitigate these threats. The student will have the opportunity to apply
theoretical knowledge in a practical context, potentially contributing to the development of more secure O-RAN
networks.
Voraussetzungen: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Information and Electrical Engineering, Computer
Science, or a related field.
• Basic understanding of network security principles.
• Having a familiarity with communication networks and standards, as well as an understanding of radio
access networks and O-RAN, would be beneficial.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Arbeitsumfeld: Opportunity to contribute to an emerging field of study.
• Potential of the work to have real-world applications to improve O-RAN security.
• Valuable experience in conducting independent research
