Teacher training at the University of Kaiserslautern-Landau

The RPTU is the only university in Rhineland-Palatinate to offer teacher training courses in all types of schools:

  • Primary school (Landau)
  • Special Needs Education (Landau)
  • Junior high school (Kaiserslautern and Landau)
  • High school(Kaiserslautern and Landau)
  • Vocational school (Kaiserslautern)  

 

To become a teacher, you will go through the following phases in all types of schools:

  1. Bachelor's degree (B.Ed., 6 semesters)
  2. Master's programme (M.Ed., 2-4 semesters)
  3. Probationary training (18 months)

 

In all types of schools you combine

1st subject + 2nd subject + educational sciences

In addition to your subject-related studies, you will complete 4 internships during your studies.

The length of study, possible subject combinations and content differ depending on the type of school chosen.

The Centre for Teacher Education supports you as the central interface between the institutions of teacher training in all questions concerning the teacher training programme.

Structure and duration of studies depending on type of school

Primary education covers following areas of study: foundations of Educational Sciences, Foreign Language Education, German, Mathematics, Physical Education and Aesthetic Education as well as the compulsory elective area. Which areas you have to study according to your subject combination can be found in the examination regulations.
