On June 22-24, 2016, researchers from Physics, Engineering and Material Sciences meet in Kaiserslautern for the Workshop “New concepts for future spintronic devices”. The Kaiserslautern physicists from Spin+X hold this workshop together with their collaboration partners from Sendai (Japan) and York (U.K.). It takes place in the framework of the Japanese „Core-to-Core“ program that brings together the worldwide leading research groups in their specific field.

During the workshop the scientists present the results of their joint research to the international public and also develop their future work program. The research centers around new spintronic devices, like non-volatile and ultrafast chips for data storage. Burkard Hillebrands, the chairman of the conference, comments: "This conference allows for scientific exchange on a very high level. Moreover, it provides our university with the opportunity to present its strength in spin engineering research internationally.” Kaiserslautern’s spin engineering research takes place within the newly established collaborative research center Spin+X, among others.

The workshop that Burkard Hillebrands organizes together with Juniorprofessor Evangelos Papaioannou takes place in the framework of the State Research Center OPTIMAS and is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation).
