Chairwoman of the German Friends of Givat Haviva e.V.
Friedel Grützmacher worked as a teacher of German and sports after long stays abroad before her political activities.
After being involved in local politics, she was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen in 1991. She was leader of the parliamentary group there from 1993 to 1996 and deputy leader from 1996 to 2001. From 2001 to 2006, she held the office of Vice President of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament.
Until 1996, she was responsible for education policy in the Green parliamentary group. She continues her commitment to education to this day. After more than 20 years of commitment to Givat Haviva, Friedel Grützmacher has been Chairwoman of the German Friends of the Jewish-Arab Peace Center since 2007.
Friedel Grützmacher is also actively involved in the founding of the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate as a member of the board of the supporting association.
In 2013, Mrs. Grützmacher was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany by the Federal President for services to Jewish-Arab understanding.
