AFK Colloquium 2025

"Between fake news, hostility to democracy and scientific skepticism: What concepts and practice does peace and conflict research need?"

The Colloquium 2025 will take place from March 19-21, 2025 in Landau. The conference of the young AFK will also take place in Landau from March 18-19, 2025.

In times of global uncertainty, peace and conflict research is called upon more than ever to find answers to challenges such as violent conflicts, climate change and social and political radicalization. In the face of rhetoric about the "war economy" and "turning point", securitization and increasing armament, peace and conflict research is faced with the challenge of reviewing and adapting its own concepts, but also of maintaining and counteracting them. How can peace and conflict research with its knowledge base survive in uncertain times, reach politics but also the general public and communicate its knowledge, especially in times of increasing skepticism about democracy and science? How do we gain which forms of knowledge, what role do different research methods play and how do we deal with aspects of disinformation and fake news? How do we communicate the (statistical/methodological) uncertainty of our research results in this context? How do we design research and learning spaces to communicate peace and conflict research without reproducing epistemic violence and being sensitive to marginalized perspectives?

  • Here you can find the preliminary conference program (as of 20.02.2025). The program will be updated regularly.
