Training for reconciliation in the midst of conflict

Lecture by Dr. Kazuyuki Sasaki, moderated by Dr. Gregor Walter-Drop

Wednesday, 02.04.2025, Building 86, Room 104, admission free!

The Great Lakes region in Africa, especially Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has been the scene of serious conflicts and wars for decades - from the First Congo War in the mid-1990s to the recent clashes in eastern Congo, in which the rebel militia "M23" in particular recently made headlines again. This lecture deals with reconciliation measures and the corresponding training in the field of peace education. Kazuyuki Sasaki is head of the training program "Reconciliation in Theory and Practice", in which students from Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo are trained for practical reconciliation work.

Dr. Kazuyuki Sasaki is a peace researcher and practitioner in the field of peacebuilding and development with 30 years of experience in Africa, particularly in Rwanda and Ethiopia. He heads the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the Protestant University of Rwanda (PUR), which he founded.
