Invitation to book presentation. Places of remembrance in the history of democracy - On the trail of the democracy movement in Rheinhessen and the Palatinate (1789 - 1849) Wednesday, October 30, 2024, 19:00 Museum of City History Landau, Maximilianstraße 7 DG. The Freundeskreis Archiv und Museum der Stadt Landau, together with the Friedensakademie Rheinland-PFalz, invites all interested parties to the book presentation by Thomas Handrich. The political scientist, educational consultant and author went in search of traces of the German democracy movement at 29 selected locations. Landau in particular repeatedly plays a prominent role in his research results, for example in 1789: during the French Revolution, democratic institutions were created and democratic rules practiced in Landau, and thus for the first time on the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition to the places where the events took place, Handrich also introduces numerous Landau residents who helped shape the democratic movement in the 19th century, such as Johannes Birnbaum, Georg Friedrich Dentzel, Gustav Gulden, Konrad Krez and Fugger von Glött. He will also explain what we can learn today from the democratic movement of that time. Registration: by e-mail to archiv-und-museum@landau.de Admission: free
