Two evenings with Givat Haviva in Speyer and Mainz: "Toward an Equal Society"
Givat Haviva is Israel’s largest and oldest civil society educational institution dedicated to Jewish-Arab understanding and a sustainable, equal democracy. Since 1949, the organization has been committed to fostering dialogue and peaceful coexistence between the Jewish and Arab populations; its Jewish-Arab Center for Peace, founded in 1963, is one of the oldest institutions of its kind in the country. For over 30 years, Givat Haviva has also maintained a close partnership with the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which has supported the organization’s work annually ever since—for projects in civil conflict resolution, the promotion of dialogue, and the teaching of fundamental democratic values.
In a discussion with Gregor Walter-Drop, Executive Director of the Rhineland-Palatinate Peace Academy at RPTU, and the audience, Educational Director Dikla Tomer-Kayal and the Director of the “Face to Face” encounter program, Yakoub Ibrahim, will discuss how Givat Haviva operates, how its work has changed—especially since October 7—what role understanding and dialogue can play in resolving conflicts, and how the Israeli “Peace Camp” is carrying out its work during such a politically dynamic time.
Torsten Reibold, representative of Givat Haviva Europe, will provide an introduction to the topic.
Some of the events will be held in English.
