"We must become fit for war, we must be able to defend ourselves and prepare the Bundeswehr and society for this," demanded Defense Minister Boris Pistorius on ZDF television at the end of October 2023. A few months later, Federal Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger saw it as the task of schools to prepare children for war and develop a "relaxed relationship with the Bundeswehr". And these are just two particularly prominent highlights. For the German debate in society and politics, the "turning point" proclaimed by Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz following Russia's invasion of Ukraine is currently above all a "leap back in time" to the Cold War. The fact that back then, the longer the more urgent, the realization that at least "Ci vis pacem, para pacem" (Dieter and Eva Senghaas) also applies seems to have been forgotten surprisingly quickly. In his new book "Peace? Secure! Anleitung zur Belebung pazifistischen Denkens", the educationalist Dr. Heinz Klippert wants to deliberately set an antipole and not only rehabilitate the concept of pacifism, but also provide concrete suggestions on what education for peace can look like. The event therefore takes the publication of the book by Westend-Verlag as an opportunity to give the discussion a different impetus than the prevailing mindset of "training for war".
