Panel discussion "War and peace - the contribution of religions in Landau" - July 13, 2023
Anyone who hears the terms "war" and "peace" today probably immediately associates them with the war in Ukraine. This war is geographically closer to us than the many wars and hotbeds of conflict that exist simultaneously around the world. And it is probably this geographical proximity that makes us here in Germany, in Rhineland-Palatinate, in Landau, deal with it much more strongly, not only mentally but also emotionally. More than other current conflicts, this war has changed the way we think and act. In a first panel discussion, representatives of the three major religious communities and the Peace Academy will address these changes.
The second part of the event will deal with the questions of what changes are being experienced here locally and what the religions see as their specific tasks in view of the current situation in Landau.
Armed conflicts, but also natural disasters and climate change are causing people to flee. People in search of a place to live are also arriving here in Landau. At the same time, irrespective of these changes, the social gap in our own country, in the city, is widening. Both changes are coming together. Many people end up or have to stay on the margins of society, experiencing their own conflicts and hardships, but very few of us meet these people, we don't see them. The third round of talks is dedicated to this topic.
The event, initiated by the Advisory Board for Migration and Integration of the City of Landau, will take place on Thursday, July 13, 7 p.m. in the ballroom at RPTU (University) Landau, Bürgerstraße 23. Admission is free, no registration required.
