Annual Report-2021

The pandemic, climate change and the topicality of wars in Europe pose major challenges for us as peace and conflict researchers, and we want to use our work to provide guidance and show ways to overcome them. We are pleased to present the 2021 Annual Report. Last year, we were preoccupied with the effects of the pandemic, as well as natural disasters almost on our doorstep.

The Covid-19 pandemic poses a variety of challenges for politics and society. We were just as preoccupied with right-wing populist discourse as we were with increasing humanitarian hardship and inequality. This makes it clear that poor and precarious sections of the population in particular suffered greatly from the Covid-19 measures. With the floods in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia, the summer of 2021 also brought the importance of the climate crisis back to the fore. We are therefore motivated to continue our work on conflicts and potential for cooperation in relation to natural resources.

The annual report presents our activities in research, public relations, workshops and teaching. It also illustrates the diverse collaborations that make these activities possible and enrich them. You can find out about our research projects and our employees' assignments abroad.
