This event focuses on the latest wave of land reforms in the Global South, which are often financed with development cooperation funds. While the reform of land laws, often dating back to the colonial era, is important for self-determined development and securing the livelihoods of local communities and indigenous groups, it also raises critical questions regarding the continuation of (colonial) heteronomy as well as dependencies and challenges for governments and local communities. Using the example of Sierra Leone, we will show how funding and the associated requirements of development cooperation actors can be an obstacle to reform.

The event will take place on 23 January 2024 from 15:00 to 16:30 in the Katharinenkapelle in Landau (Blumgasse 3) with subsequent networking and exchange and is aimed at development policy organizations, students and all other interested parties.
