Events on conflicts over democracy at Hambach Castle

The Hambach Castle

The Hambach Castle Foundation has taken a stand against the politically motivated appropriation of the Hambach Festival in a statement drawn up jointly with the Foundation's Advisory Board. Amendments to the Foundation's statutes and rules of use are intended to prevent right-wing populist events, such as the so-called 'New Hambach Festival', from taking place at the castle in future. Legal steps have also been taken to prohibit the use of the title 'New Hambach Festival'. Here you can find the press release as well as the statement of the Hambach Castle Foundation.

The Peace Academy is working on several projects on the conflicts of interpretation surrounding democracy. It is currently planning several events on this topic. As part of the series Democracy Days Hambach - #2021Hambach1832 and the Democracy Week Neustadt, the workshop 'WIeDERsprechen für Demokratie - ein Argumentationstraining gegen rechte Parolen' will take place on July 10 in Landau. This will be held in cooperation with Gegen Vergessen - Für Demokratie e.V. On 25 June, sociologist Thomas Wagner will analyze intellectual positions in the AfD's dispute over direction as part of the digital lecture event "Citizens' front against the welfare state or right-wing conservative people's party?". Finally, the workshop on conflicts over democracy in 1832 and 2021, which was postponed due to the pandemic, will be held at Neustadt Monastery on 3-4 December. A conference on peace education approaches in this context is also planned for October 11-13 in cooperation with the Peace Education Working Group of the Working Group for Peace and Conflict Research.
