Successful workshop on 'speaking out' in dealing with right-wing slogans in Landau

Workshop WIeDERSPRECHEN

The workshop focused on the participants' strategies and experiences in dealing with discriminatory statements. Whether in a professional, private or political context, everyone already has experience that can be built on. There was a deliberate decision not to provide any one-size-fits-all recipes, as the strategy that is possible and helpful depends on the individual and the situation in question.

The participants were therefore introduced to various communication methods and divided into small groups to try them out using specific examples, most of which they brought in themselves. And finally, things got serious: in a forum theater scene, 'speaking out' could be experienced and put into practice.

The overall conclusion was very positive, also because it was possible to learn and practise together in the seminar room interactively and - of course with distance - together. The experience of not being alone was perceived as particularly empowering by the participants.

The workshop was part of the Hambach Democracy Days, as part of which many more events on the topic will be taking place in the coming weeks and months. Among other things, the Peace Academy organized an online lecture on right-wing populism in Europe on 25 June, which is still available online. Against Forgetting - For Democracy e.V. offers similar argumentation training courses in different contexts and regions.

The workshop was supported by the Rhineland-Palatinate State Center for Political Education.
