In the summer semester 2023, we warmly welcomed the architect Christiane Fath at RPTU.

As part of the Clara Marie Faßbinder Visiting Professorship at RPTU, she led events on the topic of "Gender in Teaching". In addition, the topic "The influence of female role models on the career paths of women in architecture" was given space.

The following events were held:

• "The Empresses: The influence of female role models on the career paths of women"
• "Come as you are! Radical inspiration + diversity"
• a compact seminar and
• the concluding symposium on June 22/23, 2023, to which female role models from the architecture scene will be invited.

The role models named in these events are committed to more diversity in German building culture and show how the job profile of female architects is currently changing. Christiane Fath would like to use the Klara Marie Faßbinder Guest Professorship to raise awareness of the connections between gender, equality and professional life.

The background: although there has been a balanced ratio of female and male students studying architecture at universities for years, only 30 percent of female architects find themselves in the profession after graduating. Only ten percent run their own architecture firm in Germany and among female architecture professors, the proportion of women is even less than ten percent. The so-called gender wage gap currently stands at 18 percent. This is partly due to the fact that women are still underrepresented in the competitive engineering sector. Christiane Fath wants to counteract this trend with the visiting professorship.

The Klara Marie Faßbinder Visiting Professorship has been funded by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of Science since 2001 and rotates between the universities in Rhineland-Palatinate. Each semester, an internationally renowned scientist follows the call to the respective host university.
