On May 23, the Basic Law turned 75 years old and has been the cornerstone of social coexistence ever since. Equal rights for women and men have thus been regulated by law since 1949. But will women be as equal as men in 2024? What has happened since the great women's movements of the 20th century and what have we already achieved? Where do women stand today, whether in politics, in the world of work or in science? Let's examine the current situation together with our external guests and guest speakers and dispel stereotypes that are still firmly entrenched.
On three dates in the summer semester 2024, we look forward to exciting and informative presentations and lectures to which all interested parties are cordially invited. Participation is free of charge and possible without prior registration. The events take place on Thursdays from 7 p.m. in lecture hall BI 001 on the RPTU campus in Landau, Fortstraße 7.

Gender gap
Even in politics, the gender gap is still very much in evidence - only 35.8% of members of the Bundestag are female. The episode "Male democracy?" of the Terra X History podcast looks at the reasons for this and whether women in politics are met with different expectations than men. Have a listen! ("das Gleichstellungswissen, VERLAG DASHÖFER GMBH, from 30.05.2024)
THE INDOMITABLE
Film screening followed by a discussion with Dr. Lea Heidbreder (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen in the RLP state parliament)
"Politics is far too serious a matter to be left to men alone."
(Käte Strobel, Federal Minister 1966-1972)
DIE UNBEUGSAMEN tells the story of women in the Bonn Republic who had to literally fight for their participation in democratic decision-making processes against men obsessed with success and drunk with office, like true pioneers. Undaunted, ambitious and with infinite patience, they pursued their path and defied prejudice and sexual discrimination.
Female politicians from back then have their say today. Their memories are both funny and bitter, absurd and sometimes frighteningly topical. Interwoven with partly unseen archive excerpts, documentary filmmaker and journalist Torsten Körner ("Angela Merkel - The Unexpected") has succeeded in creating an emotionally moving chronicle of West German politics from the 1950s to reunification. The images he has found unfold a force that allows us to rediscover cinema as a place of political self-assurance. An insightful contemporary document that makes an unmistakable contribution to the current discussion.
We are delighted to welcome Dr. Lea Heidbreder, local politician and chairwoman of Bündnis 90/die Grünen, to the subsequent panel discussion. Join in the discussion and talk to her and us. Drinks and snacks will be provided during the screening.
All interested parties are welcome. Prior registration is not required. Admission is free.

"Female Leadership" An obstacle course?
Guest lecture by Petra Lutz, Coaching & Consulting (Wiesbaden)
Many women want to improve their position at work and in society - and that's a good thing! At the same time, despite many efforts, the proportion of women in management positions has not increased significantly. In science and in German management in general, women are blatantly underrepresented with less than 30%, and the higher the position in the organization, the more lonely it becomes for women.
It is well documented that structural hurdles make it difficult for women to advance. We also know from studies, coaching and consulting that, in addition to these external hurdles, there are also internal hurdles, ingrained beliefs, behaviors and habits that typically prevent women from advancing.
On this evening, let's take a closer look at outdated stereotypes and find inspiration to make good decisions for yourself.(Petra Lutz, Coaching & Consulting)
All interested parties are welcome. No registration is required. Admission is free.

Is this Nikola's house? Or: On the question of the successful participation of women in science
Guest lecture by Heide Gieseke, graduate psychologist (Mannheim)
Gender equality in science should be achieved by 2030 - i.e. in just six years - according to Federal Science Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger at the event "Frauen.Forschung.Freiheit. Wie steht es um die Gleichstellung in der Wissenschaft?" on the occasion of International Women's Day 2024.
With 28% female professors at federal level (26.8% in Rhineland-Palatinate), this seems a very ambitious target. Very ambitious not only because of the current percentage figures, but also in view of the fact that the equality of women and men in science was first included in the Higher Education Framework Act in November 1985 and that the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, for example, has formulated this constitutional mandate in each of its amendments to the Higher Education Act since 1987. The recurring question of whether there will still be a need for special federal and state programs for gender equality in science in 2024 and beyond can therefore certainly be answered unequivocally.
But why is this the case? This question and why the much-cited necessary cultural change in science has not yet taken place, at least not satisfactorily, will be examined in the lecture and the subsequent discussion with psychologist Heide Gieseke.
All interested parties are welcome to attend. No registration is required. Admission is free.
