Peace policy in unpeaceful times - challenges and solutions
Landau Peace Lecture with Dr. Tobias Lindner on March 7, 2019.
On 7 March 2019, Dr. Tobias Lindner, Member of the German Bundestag / Spokesperson for Security Policy of the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group, gave an exciting lecture on peace and security policy challenges and possible solutions to overcome them. Numerous interested people accepted the invitation of the Peace Academy RLP to attend the lecture and discussion in Landau's Katharinenkapelle. The subsequent wine reception provided an opportunity for discussion, conversation and exchange with the speaker.
Western Europe has had the great good fortune of being able to live in peace for decades. A glance at our immediate neighborhood is enough to see that peace is a fragile asset that must be preserved and for which we must actively work every day. The challenges we face are manifold. Russia is calling the European peace order into question with its aggressive actions. The USA and its current president are undermining global institutions and achievements. China is striving for ever greater influence and is shaking up the traditional poles of the world order. All of this is further complicated by global terrorism.
In his presentation, Dr. Tobias Lindners addressed these peace and security policy challenges and proposed solutions to overcome them. In particular, he addressed civilian crisis prevention and the roles of the German Armed Forces, NATO and the United Nations.
Dr. Tobias Lindner is a member of the German Bundestag and Chairman of the Rhineland-Palatinate regional group of Green MPs. As spokesman for security policy for the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group and chairman of the defense committee, he deals intensively with security and defense policy as well as the structures and tasks of the Bundeswehr.
