New publication: Lebensweltliche Frieden - The ride of the "Dakota 38+2"
In the latest issue of Science & Peace (02/2020), Melanie Hussak writes about multiple forms of violence against the indigenous population of North America, lifeworld understandings of peace and their implications for peace research.
Using lifeworld understandings of peace of the L/Dakota, the article considers the significance of marginalized ontologies (theories of being) for understanding previously overlooked peace processes and the associated potential for peace. Using the example of the ride of the "Dakota 38+2", the author sheds light on the current situation of indigenous communities and their efforts to restore peace (understood in the plural!) and the associated processes of decolonization they have initiated. Implications for peace research and peace work are then discussed.
