Polish is a West Slavic language and the official language of Poland. It is spoken by millions of people worldwide, primarily in Poland and in Polish diaspora communities. Polish is characterized by a complex sound system with many sibilants and a highly inflected grammar with seven cases. The vocabulary is predominantly of Slavic origin, but also shows influences from Latin, German, French and Russian. Polish is written using the Latin alphabet, supplemented by several diacritical marks.
