Review of the final PREP conference - Education for civil protection
Around 60 experts from science, practice and disaster and civil protection authorities came together for the final event of the PREP project (Informal and self-directed learning processes of the population in the field of disaster prevention). The event, organized by Sophie Lacher and Prof. Dr. Matthias Rohs (Chair of Adult Education), was all about dialogue and joint further development - designed as a flipped conference, in which the participants received content-related impulses in advance and were able to use the time together on site intensively for discussion, reflection and networking.
This special form of collaboration made a noticeable contribution to opening up specialist perspectives and developing new ideas. In lively discussions, the project results were critically examined, considered further and linked with practical experience.
A particular highlight was the keynote speech by Dr. Jan-Erik Steinkrüger (BBK), who impressively outlined the current challenges and future prospects of civil protection. Equally enriching were the contributions of our Critical Friends Prof. Dr. Lars Gerhold (TU Braunschweig), Prof. Dr. Harald Karutz (Medical School Hamburg) and Prof.in Dr.inDeniseKlinge (Goethe University Frankfurt), whose constructive comments and inspiring questions helped to rethink the results of the project in new directions.
The conference showed how valuable interdisciplinary exchange and joint learning are - it raised many new questions that will stimulate future research and at the same time generated ideas for practical implementation.
Many thanks to the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) for funding the project. Further information on the results can be found on the project website:
