„Standing for Freedom / Poser pour la liberté“ – Portraits of Scientists in Exile

Traveling exhibition from May 8 to June 15

Using large-format portrait photographs and text contributions in English and French (German by scanning a QR code), the traveling exhibition "Standing for Freedom / Poser pour la liberté" traces the lives of researchers and scientists who were persecuted in their home countries and forced into exile. The photo composition, consisting of a portrait, the country of origin, the host country and personal objects, depict the history of the portrayed persons. It offers a foray into four themes: History of Scientific Asylum; Researchers in Danger of Their Lives; Science in Exile, Reporting, Observing, Witnessing.

Designed for the general public, universities, high schools and sponsors, this exhibition is a call to public and private actors, but also a contribution to raise awareness on the subject. The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between curator Pascale Laborier, professor of political science in Paris, and Berlin-based photographer Pierre-Jérôme Adjedj.

For six weeks, the exhibition is now coming to RPTU in Kaiserslautern .
The exhibition is spread over two locations on campus, I. University Library - UB (Building 32) and II. Laboratory for Advanced Spin Engineering - LASE (Building 76). Access to the LASE building is by appointment.  The entrance is free.

The exhibition has been brought to the Kaiserslautern campus by Laurence Gendron-Ulber (double degree coordinator at RPTU).
The exhibition in Kaiserslautern takes place in cooperation with CampusKultur and is supported by the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau, the Deutsch-Französische Hochschule  - DFH and the Deutsch-Französische Bürgerfonds.
