Conversion expert, peace worker and former member of the German Bundestag
Roland Vogt studied law and political science at the Universities of Heidelberg and Saarbrücken and at the Free University of Berlin.
He was a member of the "Social Defense" study group of the Association of German Scientists and worked as a working group and project group leader at the law department of the Free University of Berlin.
Since the early 1970s, he has been politically involved in the cooperation and development of citizens' initiatives for environmental protection, in resistance against nuclear power plants and in non-violent actions against military facilities.
Roland Vogt was a founding member of the first nationwide list alliance under the name The Greens in 1979.
He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1983 to 1985 and a research assistant to the Green parliamentary group until 1990. From 1996 he was a member of the state executive of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen in Brandenburg, and from 2000 to 2003 he was its state chairman.
Roland Vogt was also a board member of several organizations in the ecology and peace movement, including the Federal Association of Citizens' Initiatives for Environmental Protection and the Federation for Social Defence, which he co-founded with Petra Kelly and Theodor Ebert, among others.
After his time in the Bundestag, he worked in various functions as a conversion expert in the Brandenburg state government, including as Head of Division in the State Chancellery and as Conversion Commissioner in the Ministry of Economics.
Roland Vogt is one of the initiators of the Rhineland-Palatinate Peace Academy and is a board member of its supporting association. He is also currently working on projects to teach civil peace concepts in Rhineland-Palatinate schools and is a member of the Institute for Peace Work and Nonviolent Conflict Resolution.
