Workshop: Action research and participation in peace education

Annalena Groppe, research associate at the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate, will give a workshop on "Action Research and Participation in Peace Education" at the Peace Education Research Colloquium of the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Freiburg.

The Peace Education Research Colloquium offers space for exchange, inspiration and collegial support in peace education research. The aim is to discuss current research projects and to work together on theoretical and research methodological issues in peace education.

The colloquium takes place in cooperation with the Peace Education Working Group of the Association for Peace and Conflict Research (AFK). Annalena Groppe is a member of the preparatory team for the Peace Education Working Group.

About the workshop

Research with rather than about people: that is the claim of transdisciplinary, participatory, cooperative and stakeholder-led (action) research. Based on concrete questions and projects of the participants, we will approach this research approach and its possible forms of implementation. We will also reflect on structural framework conditions, for example in the context of qualification work, and develop strategies to consciously position our own research within them. Finally, the focus is on the special quality of findings that emerge in close cooperation with research partners - and their transformative power for peace education.

Annalena Groppe (she/her) is responsible for peace education research and practice at the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate. In her doctoral project, she worked with activists and educational actors to test and reflect on learning spaces in conflicts of interpretation surrounding the history of democracy at Hambach Castle. Using experiential and relationship-based methods, she combines theory and practice - especially with regard to different forms of knowledge and the resulting ideas of peace and transformation.
