Modeling and Simulation
Manufacturing processes in ultra-precision and micro technology not only represent new and major challenges for the machines and instrumentations. They also require new types of simulation techniques in order to better understand the processes at the micro scale and to derive improvement and optimization strategies out of this. The research program in the focus „Modeling and Simulation" is dedicated to the development of these new types of process-accompanying simulations. The challenges of simulation, visualization and computer hardware lie in the complex modeling of geometry and topology as well as material behavior, the occurrence of size effects, the multi-physical coupling of various effects and the multi-scale in space and time.
For a better understanding of the results of the simulations, innovative visualization and analysis techniques are being researched which enable direct insights and make connections recognizable. These techniques must clearly represent the complex model geometry and topology and the interaction of model variables and parameter dependencies.
