Climate change and peace - school lecture on Democracy Day in Wörth
Global justice and climate change are topics that are both highly topical and explosive. They are also playing an increasingly important role among the younger generation and interest in learning more about these problems is growing. As part of the Democracy Day, Rebecca Froese from the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate was a guest at the Europagymnasium in Wörth to talk about the connection between climate change, conflicts and justice.
Climate change is considered one of the greatest challenges of the 21st century and is also playing an increasingly important role in political issues. Due to its social impact, it is also important to bring this discussion into various educational contexts and to sensitize young people to this topic.
On Monday, September 12, 2022, Rebecca Froese from the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate visited Europagymnasium Wörth to talk to the students about the connection between climate change and global peace as part of Democracy Day. The lecture, which was aimed at the advanced courses in social studies and geography, took place in cooperation with the "Demokratie leben!" coordination and specialist office and served as preparation for a subsequent panel discussion with local politicians. Under the title "Climate change as a global crisis of justice and peace - the connection between climate change and conflicts", concepts and theories on violent conflicts and conflict sensitivity were first discussed. In the further course of the lecture, these concepts were then applied to the contexts of climate protection and climate adaptation measures, among other things, and political options for action were examined.
