Art, culture and peace - a podcast mini-series on the Rhineland-Palatinate Summer of Culture 2022

Art and culture approach a wide variety of topics in sometimes very unusual ways. We ask: What does art have to say about peace? What significance do art and culture have for peace? How can participation be promoted and what role does one's own body play in art? In this three-part mini-series, Focus on Peace talks about the link between activist themes and art and opens up new perspectives on culture.

The Rhineland-Palatinate Summer of Culture 2022 has once again brought a wealth of different impressions to our federal state this year. Now, with the arrival of fall, the end is approaching and it is time for a brief review. Under the title "Ostwind - War and Peace", artists and cultural practitioners from a wide range of fields were drawn to Rhineland-Palatinate to share their reflections and insights into the culture of Eastern European countries. The Peace Academy also supported the cultural summer with a mini-series on culture and peace in its podcast Focus on Peace. Presenters Julia Renner-Mugono and Rebecca Froese spoke to an art historian, a performance artist and a visual philosopher about the various links and the relevance of culture for social, political and individual peace. In fascinating interviews, they describe how art can stimulate dialog and create spaces for political exchange. In addition to the realization that art sometimes means having to leave your comfort zone, they also take a look at how art and culture manage to make difficult topics easily accessible on a variety of levels. In addition, Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister of Culture Katharina Binz talks about how the cultural summer was influenced by the Russia-Ukraine conflict and gives an outlook on the themes of the coming years.
