New issue of Die Friedens-Warte 1-2/2021: "Pioneers of peace research - a new look"
The aim of this special issue is twofold. On the one hand, the pioneering works of the former founders of peace research are to be honored and thus remain present and familiar to future generations. On the other hand, they are discussed with a view to their own controversies, their topicality and relevance in current peace studies and peace policy discourses. The issue takes an in-depth look at 11 pioneers of national and international peace research, including Johan Galtung (article by Sabine Jaberg), Ekkehart Krippendorff (article by Michael Berndt), Elise Boulding (article by Eva Senghaas-Knobloch) and Nobel Peace Prize winner Bertha von Suttner (article by Romy Klimke). The thematic spectrum of the issue therefore ranges from conceptual foundations, political-economic, liberal and socio-psychological approaches to peace research to concepts of non-violence.
The Panorama section contains book reviews by Sabine Jaberg on the German translation of "Gandhi's Political Ethics" by Johan Galtung and Arne Næss and by Peace Academy staff member Anne Hennings on "The Companion to Peace and Conflict Work", edited by Roger Mac Ginty, Roddy Brett and Birte Vogel.
