To mark the new cooperation between the City of Trier, the Advisory Board for Migration and Integration and the Rhineland-Palatinate Peace Academy, Lord Mayor Wolfram Leibe and Advisory Board Chairwoman Dr. Maria de Jesus Duran Kremer hosted the kick-off event "Shared Society in Trier. On the way to a new togetherness" on February 13, 2019 at the ERA Trier.

The event is part of the international "Shared Society" project. In this project, country teams consisting of academics and practitioners from Germany, Israel, Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Belgium are developing new knowledge and practical approaches to "Shared Society". Shared Society is a sustainable approach that aims to enable all social groups and individuals to participate equally and as fully as possible in a common society. The principles of a shared society - cohesion, equality, diversity and participation - are to be translated into concrete projects in each country. In Germany, the Peace Academy RLP as a scientific partner and the Advisory Council for Migration and Integration as a practical partner are taking on the task of jointly putting this perspective into practice. The aim of the five-year cooperation is to introduce the concept of the "Shared Society" into the migration and integration work of the city of Trier and to initiate and supervise pilot projects.

After a welcome by the Lord Mayor, the program included a presentation by Dr. Duran Kremer, who introduced her institution under the title "25 years in the service of a sustainable society of cultural diversity: The Advisory Board for Migration and Integration". She highlighted the fact that the Advisory Board's work was being honored with such high-level cooperation in its anniversary year as a particular stroke of luck. This was followed by a presentation of the program and the cooperation by the Managing Director of the Peace Academy Jun. Prof. Dr. Janpeter Schilling and the project manager Melanie Hussak. Prof. Dr. Ran Kuttner from Givat Haviva then gave a guest lecture entitled "From a Divided to a Shared Society", outlining promising paths to peaceful coexistence.

After the lecture, the more than one hundred visitors had the opportunity to discuss with the guest speaker and to make personal contact over a wine reception.
