WERA Workshop on Crystallization by Prof. Matthias Kind (KIT)
WERA-Workshop on Crystallization by Prof. Kind
Date: 10–11 December
Location: LPME seminar room
Lecturer: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Kind, Institut für Thermische Verfahrenstechnik, Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT)
Several WERA projects are investigating the crystallisation of struvite. Furthermore, crystallisation is a fundamental process for many applications.
As part of the WERA Research Training Group's qualification programme, a Crystallisation workshop took place on 10–11 December 2025. It was led by Prof. Matthias Kind from KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), who is an internationally recognised scientist and expert in this field. He has organised a university course on crystallisation and precipitation for many years.
The participating doctoral students gained comprehensive insights into crystallisation processes, ranging from the theoretical fundamentals to the practical applications of crystallisation, including struvite.
Prof. Kind delivered the course over two days, covering the following topics in his lectures:
Day 1
| 10 am to 12 pm | Crystallization equilibria |
| 2 pm to 4 pm | Crystallization methods and processes |
| 4 pm to 5 pm | Modeling |
Day 2
| 9 am to 10 am | Crystallization apparatus |
| 10 am to 12 pm | Precipitation |
| 2 pm to 3 pm | Struvite precipitation |
| 3 pm to 4 pm | Question time/discussion |
