The potential area Construction Site of the Future - Automation and Digitization is a cross-disciplinary initiative of engineers and computer scientists that addresses the social task of resource conservation, energy efficiency and the availability of infrastructure.

It is only recently that digital data models and processes for use in the construction industry have been investigated and applied in initial sub-applications. The RPTU has extensive expertise in this area and in construction technologies. Industry 4.0 and commercial vehicle technology are further proven research fields of the RPTU. By networking these competencies and applying them to the new research field of the construction site of the future, the engineering sciences are assuming their social responsibility in an important area of application and opening up a new, largely unoccupied field of research for the RPTU. This creates a unique selling proposition for the engineering sciences at the RPTU in excellent application research.
