Wanted: PhD scholarship holder

The Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate at the Landau campus is looking to fill the following position as of September 1, 2022

of a doctoral scholarship holder (m/f/d)

 

as part of the third-party funded project "Tug of War - Customary and State Actors in Land Reform and their Impact on Human Security in Post-Conflict Societies".

The fellowship of 1,600 euros per month is for a period of two years. In addition, travel and material funds are available for stays abroad. If required, the Peace Academy RLP will endeavor to support the successful applicant in obtaining follow-up funding for the completion of the doctorate.

The research project examines land reforms in post-war contexts and their impact on human security in Sierra Leone and is funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation. The research findings contribute to a better understanding of the interactions between state and customary authorities (such as chiefs) and between land reform and conflict. Recommendations for action will also be developed for practitioners in development cooperation and peacebuilding. The aim is to write a dissertation in the subject area of the project.

Main tasks:

  • Content and organizational implementation of the research project, together with the project manager
  • Development of the conceptual framework for researching the impact of land reforms on human security, together with the project manager
  • Six months of field research in Sierra Leone (divided into two stays)
  • Willingness to participate in national or international conferences and the organization of public events
  • Publication activities

 

Your profile:

  • An above-average Master's degree in peace and conflict studies, political science, sociology, ethnology, geography or related social science and humanities disciplines from a university or comparable institution of higher education
  • Very good knowledge in one or more of the following subject areas Peace and conflict research, development research, African research, qualitative methods of social research
  • Willingness and suitability for longer field research stays
  • Ability to carry out independent academic work
  • Experience in publishing research results, especially in peer-reviewed journals
  • Very good written and spoken German and English skills

 

The position offers home office opportunities, the willingness to be regularly present in Landau i. d. Pfalz and active participation in the team of the Peace Academy RLP is required.
