Landau Peace Lecture on intra-societal peace processes in Israel

Hardly a week goes by without the media reporting on the Middle East conflict. In Israel, the educational and meeting center Givat Haviva has been involved in Jewish-Arab understanding work since 1949, including accompanied Jewish-Arab community partnerships. At the next "Landau Peace Lecture" on 29 June 2017, 6:30 pm (rooms of the Catholic student associations, Moltkestraße 9), Dr. Ran Kuttner from the University of Haifa and academic advisor at Givat Haviva will speak on the topic "From Coexistence to a Shared Society".

In his lecture in English, Kuttner will explain how these partnerships in Israel can strengthen the Jewish-Arab dialog at a civil society level and thus place the relationship between the country's two largest population groups on a cooperative basis. In the recent past, Givat Haviva has not only set itself the goal of peaceful coexistence through projects in the field of civil conflict resolution and peace education, but also a common future for Jews and Arabs in Israel as a "Shared Society", i.e. a social model in the sense of an inclusive, just and democratic civil society.

Kuttner teaches at the University of Haifa in the international degree program "Peace and Conflict Management". Prior to that, he taught at the Werner Institute in Creighton (USA) in the field of negotiation and conflict resolution and was a visiting scholar at Harvard Law School for three years. He is a mediator and mediation teacher in Israel and advises organizations and community centers that promote Arab-Jewish dialogue.

The "Landau Peace Lectures" are a series of events organized by the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate. Experts from science and practice present current and innovative peace research as well as findings and experiences from crisis prevention and civil conflict management to the interested public.
