Landau Peace Lecture on the role of empathy in conflicts

Empathy facilitates social interactions. It helps us to share the feelings of others in everyday situations. Whether empathy and perspective-taking can also help resolve interpersonal conflicts is the topic of the next Landau Peace Lecture on June 1, 6 p.m. c.t. in the Rote Kaserne, Marktstraße 40, RK 005.

Psychologist and neuroscientist Dr. Olga Klimecki from the University of Geneva will present current research on the role of empathy and perspective-taking in conflicts and show when and how these skills can be put to good use. Current research shows that "more" empathy and perspective-taking does not necessarily reduce the potential for conflict.

Dr. Klimecki is currently coordinating the research focus on the role of emotions in conflict resolution at the University of Geneva. She also heads the "Emotions" working group in the European "Medit-Ageing" project.

The "Landau Peace Lectures" are a series of events organized by the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate. Experts from science and practice present current and innovative peace research as well as findings and experiences from crisis prevention and civil conflict management to the interested public.
