Review: Lecture at the research workshop of the research group "Architecture Theory History" at RPTU in Kaiserslautern

Architecture, theory, history. Summer semester 2025

On July 8, 2025, Christopher Rohles, research associate at the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate, gave a lecture at the research workshop of the research group "Architecture Theory History" at RPTU in Kaiserslautern under the direction of Prof. Dr. Adria Daraban. The "Research Workshop" format is primarily intended to provide a platform for young academics.

As part of his research, he discussed the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) in the implementation of land reform financed by multilateral organizations in Sierra Leone. Rohles showed that local CSOs operate in an area of conflicting dependencies and that funding from the World Bank in particular has a negative impact on the perception of customary authorities. Cooperation between CSOs and customary authorities is central to the implementation of the reform. The lecture offered insights into current development policy dynamics in the so-called global South and the associated post-colonial structures. In addition to the interdisciplinary professional exchange, the event also helped participants to get to know the Peace Academy Rhineland-Palatinate and the research group "Architecture Theory History" at RPTU.
