Workshop on "Ethnographic Relations: Power - Responsibility - Affect" at the University of Tübingen
On April 11 and 12, the working group "Ethnographic Methods in Political Science" of the German Political Science Association (DVPW) organized a workshop on power relations in ethnographic research in cooperation with the junior professorship Riccarda Flemmer at the University of Tübingen.
The participants dealt intensively with various forms of power relations in the context of ethnographic research and examined them from a moral, political and emotional perspective. In addition to the reasons for power asymmetries, the responsibility of researchers to reflect on imbalances and, at best, counteract them was discussed. Christopher Rohles took part in the workshop as we are dealing with power asymmetries in our research process as part of the Peace Academy's research project "Tug of War - Customary and State Actors in Land Reform and their Impact on Human Security in Post-Conflict Societies". He shared his experiences with power imbalances during his research stay in the Global South and brings new food for thought and insights to Landau.
