Strategic Partnership between the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau and the University of Namibia (UNAM)

The Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau, mainly the faculties of Civil Engineering and Spatial and Environmental Planning, has been cooperating with the University of Namibia (UNAM) in the fields of study, teaching and research for several years.

The activities to date include inter alia student projects on regional issues with concluding works in Namibia as well as the stay of Namibian students at the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau with internships, professional excursions and lectures. In 2015, a pilot plant for rainwater harvesting was also inaugurated at the UNAM site, which took place in combination with a symposium on rainwater utilization in Namibia.

In November 2016, the new cooperation agreement was signed by the former TU-President, Prof. Dr. Helmut Schmidt, and the Vice Chancellor of UNAM, Prof. Lazarus Hangula, solemnly in Windhoek. This sets the formal framework for strategic cooperation for a further period of five years at least. On this basis, a strategic partnership between the two universities was concluded in order to intensify the existing cooperation in research, study and teaching. Until End of October, 2019, the coordination took place through a specially created unit, which was financed from central funds of the university administration. The coordination center was supplementing the existing offers of the Department of International Affairs: ISGS of the Rheinland-Pfälzische Technische Universität Kaiserslautern-Landau.

The coordination center was established in the Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management, Faculty of Civil Engineering, and was active since April 2017. Further information can be found HERE.

By October 31, 2019, the work of the coordination center was completed and the coordination center closed. For inquiries about the strategic partnership between the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau and the University of Namibia please contact Prof. Dr. Robert Jüpner.
