International Conference on Burrs – Analysis, Control and Removal

On April the 2nd and 3rd the International Conference on Analysis, Control and Removal of Burrs, was held at the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau, Germany. It marked the end of the three-year cycle of the CIRP working group on Burrs. Participants from national and international companies and research facilities joined the conference and presented results of their research work.

The conference program covered a broad spectrum of topics ranging from standards for burr description and classification and the mechanics of burr formation over modeling and simulation of the underlying mechanisms to burr control and deburring strategies. The proceedings of the International Conference on Burrs will be published by Springer in the second quarter of 2009.

Our special appreciation goes to the invited keynote speakers: Prof. Dornfeld from UC Berkeley, USA, one of the leading experts in the field, who gave an overview of the state of research in analysis, control and removal of burrs. Prof. Biermann from TU Dortmund, Germany, presented his scientific and industrial experience on burr reduction and burr control strategies. Mr. Berger from Daimler, Germany, and Dr. Martinsen from RTIM, Norway, gave an insight into the industrial importance of burr issues and part cleanliness.

We would like to warmly thank all participants, chairman, speakers, sponsors and organizers for their contribution to the success of the International Conference on Burrs.
