Digital Café for future designers

Where research meets education - impulses for tomorrow's teaching.

At the Digital Café for Future Shapers, we connect teachers from all types of schools with researchers at RPTU. Together, we share the latest research findings, innovative ideas and new didactic approaches - in a practical and inspiring way.

For teachers: direct access to the technologies and methods of tomorrow. For researchers: Valuable insights from everyday teaching practice.

An example of successful transfer

Promoting dialog and advancing cooperation

How can event formats lead to long-term collaborations? One example is the "Digital Café for Future Shapers" dialog format initiated and supervised by Ms. Chantal Momber. The event brings together stakeholders from research and professional practice, such as the "ExClaim" software system developed by the Department of Computer Science. This gives pupils and students prompt feedback on whether they have solved their programming tasks correctly. The department is now working with Gymnasium Konz and Gymnasium Mainz-Oberstadt to further develop the program and use it in school lessons.Dr. Annette Bieniusa, Matthias Weber, Peter Zeller and Sebastian Schloßer from the Department of Computer Science developed the system, which has been in use at TU Kaiserslautern since 2014.

It provides students with feedback on the correctness of a programming task within seconds. However, the technology is not only of interest for learning at the university, but can also be used in school lessons.

Bieniusa and Schloßer presented the software at the "Digital Café for Future Shapers", which was initiated and organized by Chantal Momber. The participants were able to test it in practice and observe, for example, how it can increase motivation to learn. The technology met with great interest from the teachers. Bieniusa and Schloßer provided the necessary equipment and sample tasks so that the system could actually be used in lessons at Konz Grammar School and Mainz-Oberstadt Grammar School.

Feedback from the participants also resulted in further projects. For example, students are currently working on creating a platform as part of their bachelor theses that will make it easier to exchange tasks and display error messages more legibly.

For Dr. Annette Bieniusa, this exchange with the schools is beneficial: "It's exciting to see how a didactic impulse from university teaching is taken up in the school context and adapted to the learning situation there. We look forward to supporting the digitalization of school lessons in this way."

At the "Digital Café for Future Shapers", interested parties can discuss new research findings and tools with academics and also try them out directly. The participants benefit from this as they gain unfiltered access to the latest scientific findings. The scientific community can also immediately incorporate the feedback from the collaboration into their research and thus improve it.
