Objectives of hazardous substance management
The hazardous substances register is the RPTU's central electronic hazardous substances database for recording and managing substances with hazardous properties in research, teaching and administration. It supports legally compliant documentation and lays the foundation for safe working with hazardous substances.
Hazardous substance register
DAMARIS
Persons who use hazardous substances are obliged to keep a list of the hazardous substances present in their work area
(Section 6 (12) GefStoffV).
All RPTU facilities are required to register hazardous substances in the DaMaRIS (Dangerous Materials Registry Information System) hazardous substances register and to manage them on a room-by-room basis. These hazardous substances lists must be updated at least once a year; in the event of significant changes in quantities, this may also be necessary at shorter intervals.
Further advantages are obvious:
- The chemicals are inventoried.
- The location of the chemicals is known, so substances can be found quickly.
- The date of purchase and thus the age of the chemicals is documented.
- Labels can be created automatically for all substances with just a few clicks.
- Chemicals that are no longer used can be passed on in a chemical exchange.
- Unnecessary chemical waste is avoided, thus protecting waterways and the environment.
- The disposal of chemicals (SASS) becomes safer.
