The city’s 750th anniversary once again highlights how closely the RPTU and the city of Kaiserslautern are connected: People from across the region gathered for the big Hefezopf event on May 30 in the city center. Proceeds from the event will be donated to regional projects through the Barbarossa Children’s Fund. The “Kitzland”—an adventure playground spanning more than 1,000 square meters at RPTU in Kaiserslautern, open to all families in the region—is a prime example of how successful this support has been.

To celebrate the city’s 750th anniversary, the Barbarossa Bakery hosted a major event on May 30 in downtown Kaiserslautern, where a 750-meter-long yeast plait caused quite a stir. Live music and a children’s program rounded out the successful event at Schillerplatz and in front of the Fruchthalle. The proceeds from the day will benefit regional projects through the Barbarossa Children’s Fund. The example of Kitzland impressively demonstrates the lasting impact of this support: The adventure playground, spanning more than 1,000 square meters on the campus of RPTU in Kaiserslautern, was built with the help of the Children’s Fund and is now open to the entire region.

Opened in 2025, Kitzland underscores a central commitment of the RPTU: balancing family life with academic studies or a career. The campus is intended to be a place where even the youngest children can feel at home, play, explore, and grow.

The playground is divided into three areas and offers a wide range of opportunities for physical activity and social interaction for children and young people of various age groups. One area is designed for children ages one to three, and the other two are for children ages four to 14.

Kitzland is intentionally designed as an open facility: It is not only intended for members of the university community but for all families in Kaiserslautern and the surrounding area. In this way, the RPTU creates another place for people to come together while also strengthening the connection between the campus and the city. Visitors can enter with a day pass or a Kids Subscription; admission is free for children under three when accompanied by an adult.
