Why optimizing constantly the wrong thing instead of doing directly the right thing? How products of tomorrow become resources of over morrow describes Michael Braungart fascinating and clear in his work »cradle to cradle«. Braungarts easy credo at this is to put intelligence finally at the beginning in product engineering. The point is also to form whole lifespan of a product. With the between 2011 and 2014 processed project ERMA the researchers are at the beginning of the Baungarts propagandised paradigm change to more intelligent product systems. The way is the right and will be forward researched starting from summer 2014 till end of 2016 in the of the Center for Commercial Vehicle Technology (ZNT) sponsored joint project “Eco-efficient mobile machines”. The “Ökobilanzwerkstatt“ is an event of the network “Lebenszyklusdaten“ for graduates, post-graduates and young scientists who research at the field of life cycle analyses or use them for applied issues. 2014 the “Ökobilanzwerkstatt” occurs from the 8th of September till the 10th of September at the University of Dresden for the tenth time. Beside different themes around the ecobalance the central theme “Ecobalanced valuation of energy technologies and energy systems” will be examined. In January 2011 the foundation „ Rheinland-Pfalz für Innovation“ approved the application to carrying out the project “ERMA” – energy and resource efficient mobile machines of the research group product engineering at the Center for Commercial Vehicle Technology (ZNT) at the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau. The joint project of the four researching facilities started on the 1^st of February 2011 and had a lifetime of 3 years. Since five terms Anita Schäfer represents “Südwestpfalz” in the German Bundestag. At invitation of issue-area sustainability of the institute of virtual product engineering (VPE) the experienced, exalted representative of federal politics visited RPTU on the 23rd of July 2014. Beside introduction of institute, research and teaching the career politician showed a big interest at the issue to the joint project ERMA. [more]

Whether eco drive or new control concepts – construction machines of the future will distinguish obvious of today’s models. Against the background of increasing energy prices and finiteness of fossil energy carrier efficiency at construction machines plays a more important role for customers. Above development work and research work in own development centers, Volvo CE works together with leading universities in Germany to find innovative solutions for the problem. For test purposes Volvo CE supplies construction machines as test carrier to university partner. Professors, engineers and students of different departments and faculties work here closely together to develop new environment-sparing and company cost cutting construction machine concepts. [more]

Sustainable development has found its way into many disciplines. Nevertheless currently it gets rather of a minority group of representatives a continuous scientific affection. Anyhow literature which arises in individual disciplines is partially quickly rising. Even research findings of research projects for sustainable development are constantly increasing. But for all that it’s on rare occasions that representatives of disciplines exchange about their respective admission to sustainable development, because most of the sustainability researchers are busy with important issues or contexts of justification in the space of their own discipline. Along with the Technical University Kaiserslautern Volvo CE is also working on the project ERMA (Energy- and resource-efficient mobile working machines). It is about research and development of energy-efficient concepts and technologies for mobile working machines. Focal points at this are the field engine, energy management, friction and Life-Cycle-Management.  “In the context of the research project ERMA future fuel-efficient machine concepts will be developed on the basis of a mobile excavator, will be simulated on a computer with real costumer data, to demonstrate the possible savings”, said Peter Bach. Within the scope of the 3. Commercial Vehicle Technology symposium at the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau of 11. to 13. March 2014 you will expect a diverse program and interesting dialogue partner. Organizer is the Commercial Vehicle Alliance (CVA) which is parent organization of the constitutions: Centrum of commercial vehicle technology (ZNT) RPTU, innovation cluster digital commercial vehicle technology (DNT) of Fraunhofer-Institute IESE and ITWM, Commercial Vehicle Cluster Südwest (CVC).
