The Transfer, Innovation and Sustainability Unit (RTIN) sees itself as a service center at the interface between science, business and society. We are an innovation and transfer partner for technology, sustainability and digitalization and bundle support in the areas of cooperation & transfer, patent and property rights as well as start-ups. We are also the first point of contact for companies looking for a university partner (find out more on our main RTIN page).

Here you will find our service pages for employees at RPTU. These will give you an overview of the extensive range of events, services and further education offered by the department and provide you with the right contact person for your request. What can I find where?

We offer you various platforms to make your innovative research results visible and support their transfer to industry and society. You can address specific target groups directly within the framework of various event formats. We also operate and maintain a matchmaking database, the expert service, in which you can present yourself and your expertise. We support researchers and lecturers at RPTU who wish to participate in leading national and international trade fairs and technology-oriented events. Our services range from the comprehensive organization of your trade fair appearance and funding for your individual event to the rental of exhibition equipment and the organization of joint stands of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate at leading German trade fairs.

In addition, RTIN, together with Division 2 - Research, publishes the regular newsletter "RPTU - Förderinfo für Forschung und Transfer" with current calls for proposals from public third-party funding bodies, which you can subscribe to here here.

As part of the Open Digitalization Alliance Palatinate (Innovative University) transfer initiative and the contact point for innovation and technology, RTIN maintains close contacts with commercial enterprises, particularly in the region. The central point of contact for legal matters relating to externally funded research, including contract management, drafting, negotiation and sample contracts, is Department 1 (Legal Affairs). You will also find the right contact there for non-disclosure agreements with external cooperation partners.

Technical advice and administrative support for researchers when applying for, managing and processing third-party funded projects is the responsibility of Department 2.4 (External Funding)which you can find here for general questions or planned third-party funded projects.

Project applications often require a description of the dissemination and exploitation strategy for the research results beyond the duration of the project. This poses certain challenges for many researchers. We are happy to support you in the preparation of the respective chapters by providing helpful information and expert feedback. If required, you can contact us here.

To differentiate the planned research activity from the current state of knowledge, it is often advisable to conduct an overview search. This provides an overview of the state of the art in the respective field of research. The staff at the Rhineland-Palatinate Patent and Information Center (PIZ) will be happy to assist you with your own search, e.g. by pointing out suitable patent classes or providing expert help in using the various search tools. You can contact the PIZ here.

If you have made an invention as an employee at RPTU, you are required by law to submit it at least two months before any other publication to your employer. The responsible office is the Rhineland-Palatinate Patent and Information Center (PIZ), which will receive your invention disclosure, answer your questions and take over the patent search and coordination of all further processes. There are no costs for you as an employee inventor. You can find the contact details, all further information and the invention disclosure form to download here under "Invention disclosure".

RPTU students who have made an invention can take advantage of the free initial inventor consultation of the PIZ, which takes place once a month.

If research results could lead to a patentable development, you must report this by law at least two months before a planned publication. The Rhineland-Palatinate Patent Information Center (PIZ) will be happy to answer your questions and accept your invention disclosure. If you have (co-)developed software as part of your work at RPTU, you must register it with the university. The responsible office is the Rhineland-Palatinate Patent and Information Center (PIZ), which will receive your software registration and provide you with advice and assistance. To ensure that you are not infringing the trademark rights of others, carry out a trademark search before use. This can be done free of charge in the database TMview. The team at the Patent and Information Center (PIZ) can help you with this. Alternatively, you can order a trademark search there for a fee. The Patent and Information Center (PIZ) offers advice on general intellectual property issues of all kinds. Further information on topics such as intellectual property rights and exploitation at RPTU, copyright in science or the Intellectual Property Guide, which is aimed specifically at members of universities, can be found here.

If you have specific questions about intellectual property rights, you can also speak to a patent attorney once a month as part of the free initial consultation for inventors ( questions about trademarks etc. can also be clarified there). The Patent and Information Center (PIZ) can provide you with tips and support for carrying out your own searches.

You can also commission the experts at the PIZ to carry out a patent, trade mark, design or literature search for a fee. If you report a service invention, the search will be carried out by the patent information center free of charge.

Here you can contact the start-up office with your start-up idea and request a personal initial meeting.
The start-up office will then help you find a qualified coach and is available at regular appointments for all matters relating to start-up preparation.

There are many federal and state funding opportunities and programs for prospective founders. Here an initial overview of the start-up office is provided.
The start-up office also offers support for funding projects to provide you with personal information. A start-up coach at your side will support you in communicating with the project sponsor, meeting deadlines and ensuring that the funding project runs smoothly. In order to promote sustainable university operations, the Sustainability Workshop is open to students and employees alike. As a central element of the participatory sustainability strategy, ideas, concepts and strategies for a more sustainable university are jointly developed there.
The Sustainability Workshop is made up of four different working groups with corresponding focal points:
- Waste/Paper Working Group
- Teaching Working Group
- Mobility Working Group
- (Research Working Group)
Current dates for the meetings of the working groups are announced by email.
