Interim status "Digital identity"

The university is obliged to verify the identity of users for certain services using official documents. The aim of the project is to develop and implement a practicable solution for identity verification.

In the first phase of the project, the requirements for digital identity verification were formulated in cooperation with the Identity Management Team (IdM Team) and the Public Key Infrastructure Team (PKI Team), which resulted from the conversion of the DFN Association's user certificates. The new concept for identity verification, and thus the first part of the project, was successfully completed at the end of 2023.

The implementation of the second project phase then began: the general verification of user identities at the university. This involved the organizational units that are currently responsible for verifying user identities. The current situation was recorded in various workshops and documented in a process diagram that defines the possible processes for creating and changing organizational units from various starting points.

Particular challenges existed and continue to exist due to different understandings of terms and inconsistencies in the various systems, which reflect different views of the organizational structure.

In the further course, a guideline for the RPTU will be drafted. In addition to a definition of terms (glossary), this guideline will define binding specifications as well as the tasks and responsibilities of a planned central office that will coordinate the maintenance of the organizational units and ensure the involvement of all relevant stakeholders and decision-makers.
