The university is obliged to verify the identity of users for certain services using official documents. The aim of the project is to develop and implement a practicable solution for identity verification.
The aim of the project, which was launched in mid-2022, was to find a practicable solution for identity verification. To this end, the project was divided into two phases:
In the first project phase, the requirements for digital identity verification resulting from the conversion of DFN-Verein's user certificates were formulated in collaboration with the Identity Management Team (IdM Team) and the Public Key Infrastructure Team (PKI Team). The new concept for identity verification, and thus the first part of the project, was successfully completed at the end of 2023.
The implementation of the second project phase then began: the general verification of user identities at the university. This involved the organizational units that are currently responsible for verifying user identities. The current status was recorded in various workshops and documented in a process diagram that defines the possible processes for creating and changing organizational units from various starting points.
Particular challenges existed and continue to exist due to different understandings of terms and inconsistencies in the various systems that reflect different views of the organizational structure. In the second phase of the project, a fixed group was also to be established to regularly discuss topics relating to "digital identity", such as role and rights management and the organizational structure of the university. The new "KoOrg" group should find solutions and approaches for this based on the process diagram that has been created. The topics of integrating the BundID account or the electronic ID card will also be considered important and necessary in the future.
