Laser Safety Training as an In-House Seminar (Campus KL)
The use of lasers plays an important role in many areas of research, as well as in numerous industrial applications. To ensure workplace safety, a laser safety officer must be appointed for all lasers in Classes 3R, 3B, and 4.
In this two-day seminar, you will acquire the necessary technical expertise in accordance with Section 5(2) of the Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance on Artificial Optical Radiation (OStrV). A prerequisite for this is vocational training (or a degree) in a technical or natural science field. The seminar is aimed in particular at RPTU employees who serve as laser safety officers in their work area or are expected to do so in the future. The seminar concludes (as required by law) with a written exam, which is NOT GRADED. Even if you acquired this certification under the old legal requirements (GUV Regulation 11 (BGV B2) or DGUV Regulation 12 (GUV-V B2)), it is necessary to retake the seminar. If you have already acquired this expertise, please note that it must be refreshed every 5 years (e.g., by participating in this seminar).
Among other topics, the seminar covers the legal and technical fundamentals of laser safety, protective measures and their implementation, as well as an introduction to risk assessment for laser systems. Due to legal requirements, the number of participants is limited to 20, of which 7 spots are still available.
The seminar will take place on August 12 and 13, 2026, and will be led by Prof. Dr. Elke Neuruffing.
