On Wednesday, August 22, the student laboratory "iPhysicsLab" at the University of Kaiserslautern (TUK) will open its doors from 4 to 7 pm for guests of all age. The team around Professor Jochen Kuhn from the Didactics of Physics invites to do experiments in the laboratory and gain insights into research. The student laboratory has been established on the Kaiserslautern campus in 2013. The offer is aimed at students, teachers and parents. There are only a limited number of places, so registration is required until August 17.

The student laboratory team will show, e.g., how tablets and smartphones can be used as mini-labs: whether it is to investigate if loud music is harmful to the ears, or to investigate the influence of air friction during a falling movement. Such data are also important for parachute jumps, e.g. In addition, the guests will learn how powerful an electromagnet really is or how data on a hard disk can be visualized using the atomic force microscope; these experiments are sponsored by and linked to SPIN+X.
Registration on the homepage of the student laboratory (www.iphysicslab.de) is required until August 17. If you want to actively participate, you can also sign up for the experiments there. These are carried out in small groups, supervised by the team around Professor Kuhn. The student physics laboratory "iPhysicsLab" offers experiments in acoustics, mechanics, radioactivity, magnetism and modern analysis methods. Many of the experiments include cameras and sensors of tablets and smartphones. The aim is to better approach the subject areas by using innovative learning techniques. School classes are welcome to campus for the experiments. The Department of Physics has developed materials that can be integrated into the classroom. Moreover, the team around Professor Kuhn regularly offers training events for teachers.
