Felix Büttner was selected this year for the Walter Schottky award for his contributions to spin-orbitronics and topologically non-trivial spin structures. Felix did his PhD in the Graduate School of Excellence Materials Science in Mainz under the supervision of M. Kläui together with S. Eisebitt from Berlin. He has contributed to a number of key publications in the field of antisymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya Interactions leading to skyrmions and manipulation of skyrmions by spin-orbitronic effects. This work is pursued in Mainz as part of Project A01 of the CRC TRR173 Spin+X.

The Walter Schottky Prize is awarded every year by the German Physical Society (DPG). It honours an oustanding young physicist with key contributions to condensed matter physics.
