On August 31stand September 1st(the weekend ahead of the Joint European Magnetic Symposia (JEMS) Conference in Mainz), SPIN+XPIs met to discuss about research directions for the second funding period after 2019.

After almost three quarters of the first funding period of the collaborative research center, all SPIN+XPIs met at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz to set the course for the second funding period. Distinguished international researchers from the field of spin and magnetism were invited both as guest speakers and as external referees in order to present, promote and discuss the research advances of the CRC.
The SPIN+X researchers had the opportunity to present the highlights of the individual projects and the scientific results of the cross-project supply chains both in short overview talks and within an extensive poster session. After two days of fruitful discussions on the scientific progress of the research center and the possible strategies for open questions and problems for the second funding application, the invited referees have provided a valuable feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of SPIN+X. These will be considered in the last year of the current phase to successfully lay the foundations for the new funding proposal.
